Goalkeeper Sutton Joins Glory with Short-Term Contract Signing

Perth Glory announced the signing of goalkeeper Matt Sutton on a three-month injury-replacement contract. This decision comes following the recent knee injury sustained by Mark Birighitti during training.
Goalkeeper Sutton’s Background
Matt Sutton, 25 years old, began his career at Melbourne Victory. He later transferred to Melbourne City, where he made his A-League debut in May 2021. After three seasons with City, he joined Western United.
Impressive Performance with Western United
During the last season, Sutton had a remarkable run, making 29 starts. He also recorded the fourth-highest number of saves in the league, totaling 74 saves.
Comments from Glory Football Director
Stan Lazaridis, Glory’s Football Director, expressed enthusiasm about Sutton joining the team. He emphasized the unfortunate timing of Birighitti’s injury but praised Sutton’s abilities. “He was one of the standout goalkeepers in the A-League last term,” Lazaridis said, highlighting Sutton’s potential to compete with Cameron Cook for the starting goalkeeper position.
