AT&T Agrees to $177 Million Data Breach Settlement – Learn How to Claim Your Share Up to $7,500

AT&T has reached a substantial settlement for two major data breaches, offering $177 million to affected customers. This settlement enables individuals to claim up to $7,500, avoiding potentially costly litigation for the telecom giant. Approved preliminarily by a Texan judge in August, this agreement comes after breaches in 2019 and 2024 compromised customer information.

Data Breach Impact

The 2019 breach, unreported until 2024, exposed personal data of over 73 million AT&T customers. This information, later found on the dark web, included sensitive details such as Social Security numbers and birth dates. In response, AT&T reset passcodes for millions of customers.

In 2024, another breach involved unauthorized access to AT&T’s cloud-based data at Snowflake. This incident affected 109 million customers and compromised mainly call data, including phone numbers and call durations. This data breach risked revealing customer identities.

Consolidated Lawsuits and Settlement

Initially, separate lawsuits filed for each breach were merged into a single class action. The resolution does not admit any liability by AT&T, aiming instead to offer affected parties redress. Two classes define the settlement allocation:

  • AT&T 1 Settlement Class – $149 million for the 2019 breach.
  • AT&T 2 Settlement Class – $28 million for the 2024 breach.
