Vero Beach Airport set to welcome new airlines and expand parking facilities

Vero Beach Regional Airport is set to expand its commercial airline services as it prepares for a busy travel season. Currently, Breeze Airways serves the airport. However, new additions include JetBlue and American Airlines joining soon.

New Airlines Arriving

JetBlue will launch its services on December 11, with American Airlines following on February 12. These expansions come as airlines approached the airport, recognizing Vero Beach’s attractive location, according to Airport Director Todd Scher. No active recruitment from the city led to these partnerships.

Infrastructure Enhancements

With increased airline activity, the airport is focusing on improving its infrastructure. This includes upgrading the covered walkways and baggage areas. However, parking has emerged as a significant concern among travelers and city officials.

Parking Challenges and Solutions

Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno highlighted parking as a frequent complaint. Scher mentioned plans for expanding Parking Lot C, currently a temporary grass lot near the control tower. Although this project’s design has been delayed, the intention is to pave more spaces, starting construction in May or June 2026.

To address immediate needs, the airport partnered with Skyports for overflow parking. An employee-only lot is also being developed, expected to open by the third week of November, potentially freeing 40 to 45 spaces daily.

Future Parking Plans

Considering long-term solutions, Mayor Cotugno inquired about external parking options. Discussions are ongoing with a party interested in leasing land near the current lots. This lease would not be a public-private partnership. Instead, the developer would manage the parking. Any future lease would include clauses to protect the city if airline services change.

The Airport Commission is set to meet on October 17 to discuss potential terms with the interested party.
