Join the Walk at Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel on October 19

On October 19, Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel will proudly participate in the annual “Grande marche” event. This initiative is part of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, in collaboration with the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ), Rio Tinto, and the Government of Quebec. Over 120 cities across Quebec will host similar events, marking a record level of participation.

For this year’s event, more than 100,000 participants are expected, including over 1,000 family physicians. The Grande marche encourages an active lifestyle and features a 5 km walking route suitable for all ages, providing an opportunity for families and individuals to come together.
Significance of the Event
The participation of Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel in this event is particularly special as it coincides with the city’s 150th anniversary. Mayor Vincent Deguise expressed pride in promoting physical activity and healthy living. He emphasized that the Grande marche embodies the spirit of Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel, reflecting its active and vibrant community.
Schedule and Activities
- Start Time: 10:30 AM at Parc de la Pointe-aux-Pins
- Pre-Walk Activities: Arrive by 10:00 AM for warming up sessions led by Francine Gamelin.
- Entertainment: The Fanfare Faux Nez will provide lively music during the walk.
- Snacks and Beverages: Complimentary refreshments will be available, provided by Fromageries Bel, QSL, and Rio Tinto.
- Water Stations: Avignon Eau De Source Naturelle will offer water refill stations.
- Sports Drink Tasting: Maple Mc2, a natural sports drink, will be available for tasting.
- Souvenir Photo Service: Participants can have a photo taken under the event arch.
