Gary Haveron Takes Helm as New Manager of Larne in Irish Premiership

Gary Haveron has officially been appointed as the permanent manager of Larne, securing a three-year contract with the club. Following a stint as interim manager since August, Haveron takes over after Nathan Rooney’s departure right after the season’s opening match.
Background of Gary Haveron
The 44-year-old Haveron, a native of Larne, led the club to a commendable position in the Irish Premiership. As of now, Larne occupies third place in the table after playing nine matches. Under Haveron’s guidance, the team enjoyed an unbeaten run until facing a setback with a 2-0 loss to Dungannon Swifts on October 4.
Haveron’s Vision
Expressing his sentiments about the new role, Haveron stated, “I’m very proud and honoured to be asked to take this on. It’s a club which is obviously very close to my heart.” He emphasized his faith in the players and the club’s direction, noting, “I have great faith in these players and believe we can compete for honours across the Irish League.”
Previous Experience
Prior to his current role, Haveron served as the head coach for a significant portion of the last season. He stepped up from assistant manager during a time when Rooney lacked the necessary credentials for European competition. Previously, Haveron also served as the interim first-team coach when Tiernan Lynch left Larne to join Derry City.
Historic Achievements
- Under Haveron, Larne became the first Irish League club to win a match in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League, defeating Gent 1-0 in December 2024.
- This season, the team exited European competition in the third qualifying round against Santa Clara.
- Haveron aims to secure the Gibson Cup for the third time in four years, after Linfield won last season’s Premiership title with a remarkable 22-point lead.
Supporting Staff and Upcoming Matches
Mick O’Boyle has been promoted to assistant manager, joining Jeff Hughes, Alan Mannus, Keith O’Hara, and Mark Campbell as part of the backroom staff. Larne’s next league game is scheduled against Cliftonville on Saturday.
