Weather Conditions Prompt New Start Time for 2025 Australian MotoGP

MotoGP has officially announced a schedule change for the 2025 Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island due to adverse weather conditions. The race start time has been pushed back by one hour to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
New Start Time for the 2025 Australian MotoGP
Race director Mike Webb stated, “Due to the weather forecast at Phillip Island, we’ve decided to move the timetable for Sunday one hour later.” The MotoGP race is now set to begin at 15:00 local time. The decision comes as high winds are predicted for Sunday morning.
Safety Concerns Prompt Delays
The schedule alteration aims to enhance safety on race day. Speculation existed that the MotoGP race might be shifted to replace the Saturday Sprint. This consideration arose after the Sprint event was canceled in 2023 due to severe weather conditions.
During a Safety Commission meeting on Friday, riders discussed the potential timetable changes. However, with only strong winds expected Sunday morning and no heavy rain forecast, officials are optimistic that a slight delay will allow the complete race-day program to proceed as planned.
Updated Schedule for Sunday
The revised schedule for the Australian MotoGP is as follows:
- 10:40 – MotoGP Warm Up
- 12:00 – Moto3 Grand Prix
- 13:15 – Moto2 Grand Prix
- 15:00 – MotoGP Grand Prix
This new start time aligns with the usual Saturday Sprint schedule, which typically occurs an hour later. The MotoGP organization remains hopeful that the updated timetable will contribute to a safe and successful race day at Phillip Island.
