Severe Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Central US States

Severe weather alerts have been issued for several states in the central United States. As of Saturday, a tornado watch is in effect for portions of four states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. This watch will remain active until 9 p.m. CT.

Details of the Tornado Watch

The watch has been extended to include other regions as well. Specifically, the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has also issued alerts for:

  • Northwest Arkansas
  • Southeast Kansas
  • Southern Missouri
  • Eastern Oklahoma

These alerts are set to expire by 6 p.m. CT on the same day.

Weather Forecast and Impact

Forecasts predict large hail and damaging winds that may reach speeds of up to 75 mph. Notably, these regions have been experiencing severe drought conditions for the past two months. Therefore, the anticipated rainfall of one to two inches will be a necessary relief.

Despite the benefits of rain, concerns about localized flash flooding loom. This rain is expected to move from the Florida Panhandle to the eastern Great Lakes by Sunday afternoon. While the intensity of severe weather is projected to decrease, storms capable of producing strong winds and large hail could still develop.

Additional Weather Concerns

Regions at possible risk also include the central Gulf Coast and areas from northern North Carolina, extending through eastern Kentucky to western New York.

Residents in these areas are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions.
