Essential Guide to Detroit Marathon 2025: Route Details, Maps, and Road Closures Explained

Students at John R. King Academy recently tested new running shoes they received for the upcoming Kids Marathon event. This year marks the 48th annual Detroit Free Press Marathon, presented by MSU Federal Credit Union, which takes place from October 17 to 19, 2025.
Detroit Marathon 2025: Overview
This international race weaves through both Detroit and Windsor. Thousands of runners are expected to participate, crossing the Ambassador Bridge into Canada and returning through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

The weekend schedule features a variety of races:

Additionally, there will be a Health & Fitness Expo on Friday and Saturday at Huntington Place.

Road Closures and Restrictions
Be aware of the following road closures during the marathon:
- Monroe Street: Closed from Randolph Street to the I-375 Service Drive.
- Northbound streets off Jefferson Avenue: Limited access north of St. Aubin Street.
- Grand River (southbound): Closed at Cass Avenue.
- Woodward Avenue (southbound): Closed south of Adelaide Street.
- Lafayette Street (westbound): Closed at Iroquois Avenue.
- Fort Street (eastbound) in Corktown: Closed at Grand Boulevard.
- Lodge Freeway (southbound): Closed after Howard Street.
- M-10 South: Closed at Howard Street.
Notably, the Ambassador Bridge will have restricted traffic. Additionally, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel will be closed from 6:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 19.
