Weather Alert Rain to Return on Monday

After an unusually dry summer and early autumn, rain is set to make a timid return to Quebec next week. Precipitation is anticipated to total around 30 mm, beginning on Monday. Meteorologist Julien Pellerin from Environment Canada highlighted the need for significant rainfall to address the ongoing deficit in water levels across the region.
Upcoming Rainfall Forecast
As of October 17, Montreal has recorded only 22.4 mm of rain over the past 17 days. This amount is significantly below the October average of 101.3 mm. Pellerin noted that water levels are exceptionally low, causing several associated issues such as low river flows and bank erosion.
Details on Rain Events
A weather system is expected to arrive on Sunday, initially impacting the western parts of Quebec before spreading southward from Gatineau to Estrie. “This will significantly affect Monday and possibly extend into Tuesday,” said Pellerin. The system is predicted to bring around 20 mm of rain across various regions.
Additional Precipitation Expected
A second weather system will likely follow on Wednesday, driven by the first system, impacting rain levels in New England. This system’s trajectory remains somewhat uncertain, but initial forecasts indicate it may bring an additional 10 to 15 mm of rain.
Long-term Outlook
- Forecasted rain for the week: 20 to 30 mm for southern Quebec.
- Current precipitation levels significantly below normal.
- Pellerin suggests continued precipitation could improve conditions through the autumn months.
Despite hopes for a deluge to aid drought conditions, it appears that rainfall will not be overwhelming. The expectation is for continuous, light precipitation from Wednesday to Friday, marking a change from the prevailing dry conditions. As October and November are typically the wettest months of the year, there is optimism for a shift in weather patterns.
