Pennsylvania American Water has recently secured a substantial sum of $64,396,571 in grants and low-interest loans from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). This funding aims to enhance water infrastructure throughout the state, specifically in four counties: Butler, Columbia, Fayette, and Monroe.

Details of Funding Allocation

  • Butler County: A filter improvement project for the Butler water system received a loan of $28,500,000. This initiative will enhance the dependable capacity at the Oneida Valley Water Treatment Plant. The project includes installing new filtration systems to replace aging equipment, ensuring reliable treatment, especially during peak demand. The loan features interest rates of 1.743% for the first five years and 2.179% for the remaining term.
  • Fayette County: In Uniontown and surrounding townships, a project aimed at replacing approximately 389 lead water service lines has secured a PENNVEST grant of $2,988,661 alongside a loan of $2,411,339. This removal initiative will contribute to improved water quality and aims to eliminate lead from the public water supply, with a fixed loan interest rate of 1% for the entire 245-month period.
  • Columbia County: A new PFAS treatment facility is set to be constructed in the Berwick District. The project has received funding totaling $25,450,000, which includes a grant of $1,087,628 and a loan of $24,362,372. This facility will feature advanced treatment technologies and improvements to current systems, with interest rates of 1% for the initial five years and 1.743% thereafter.
  • Monroe County: A project to build PFAS and manganese treatment facilities at Pocono Pine Hill Well Station has been allocated a $562,432 grant and a $4,484,136 loan. The work involves demolishing existing structures and constructing new facilities with advanced filtration systems. Loan terms include an initial interest rate of 1% for five years and 1.743% for the remaining duration.
