REM Line Launches November 17 Connecting to Deux-Montagnes

The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will expand its services starting November 17, connecting downtown Montreal to the Deux-Montagnes region on the North Shore. This eagerly anticipated extension will introduce 14 new stations to the REM network, enhancing connectivity for public transit users.

Key Details of the Branch Opening

As the service launches, five stations currently operate between Montreal and Brossard on the South Shore. The new line will feature:

  • Three connections to the Montreal metro.
  • Revised bus routes that will integrate with the REM system.

Service will commence at approximately 5:30 a.m. from both Brossard and Deux-Montagnes. However, in the evenings, trains will only operate until the Côte-de-Liesse station, as ongoing tests will continue for future developments.

Future Developments

The commissioning of the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, located in the western part of Montreal, is slated for the spring of next year. The REM network aims to include a total of 26 stations and will span 67 kilometers upon completion.

Projected Costs and Timeline

The REM project is expected to cost $9.4 billion, reflecting an increase of $2.4 billion compared to initial estimates made in 2018. A significant milestone in the future will be the link to Montreal-Trudeau Airport, which is projected to be completed by 2027.

This expansion marks a crucial step in improving public transit accessibility in the region, allowing for more efficient commutes for residents and visitors alike.
