Former EastEnders actor Tony Caunter has passed away at the age of 88. He was best known for his portrayal of Roy Evans from 1994 to 2003. Pam St Clement, who played his on-screen wife Pat Butcher, honored his memory with a heartfelt tribute.

Caunter’s family announced that he died peacefully at Eastbourne District General Hospital in East Sussex. His passing came just eight days after the death of his wife, Fran, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

St Clement expressed her sorrow, calling him “not only a lovely man but a true gentleman to work with.” Shaun Williamson, who portrayed his son Barry Evans, referred to Caunter as a “great man” and “like a second father” to him. He shared on Instagram:
