Octopus Energy Offers Free Electric Blankets to Slash £300 Off Your Energy Bill

As colder months approach, Octopus Energy is launching a program to support vulnerable customers by providing free electric blankets. This initiative is part of the company’s Octo Assist support fund, which aims to assist those with specific vulnerabilities and medical needs among its seven million customers.

Significant Savings with Electric Blankets

Octopus Energy estimates that households can save approximately £300 annually on energy bills by using electric blankets instead of central heating. Heating an entire home can cost about £4 per day, while an energy-efficient electric blanket can heat an individual for as little as 4p per hour.

Distribution of Free Blankets

So far, Octopus has distributed around 93,000 free electric blankets to their most vulnerable clients, with an additional 10,000 blankets available this winter. The average customer utilizing the blankets has seen a reduction of 20% on their gas bills.

Eligibility for the Octo Assist Program

To qualify for a free electric blanket, customers must apply for the Octo Assist scheme. Applications require personal details, including income and expenditures. Additionally, applicants should explain their difficulties regarding energy bills.

Investment in Comfort

For those who are able, Octopus Energy encourages the purchase of electric blankets, stating that they cost around £40 but can yield significant savings. The company stresses that buying one can not only benefit the buyer but also help someone else who is in need.

Other Energy Support Initiatives

Meanwhile, EDF Energy is also engaging in an initiative that allows customers, including non-customers, the chance to win free energy for a year. This campaign, which runs four prize draws each month until December, offers winners a gas and electricity residential tariff free for 12 months.

  • Eligibility for EDF Prize Draw: Applicants must be 18 years or older, reside in Great Britain, and be responsible for their home’s energy supply contract.
  • Exclusions: The offer is not available to EDF employees or their affiliates.

Both Octopus Energy and EDF are taking steps to alleviate financial pressure associated with energy costs as winter approaches, emphasizing community support and individual responsibility.
