Central and Northern Alberta Election Results: Votes Slowly Arriving
Municipal election results in central and northern Alberta have started to emerge, although many areas have not yet published unofficial outcomes. Here are some key highlights from the elections.
Red Deer and Red Deer County Election Results
In Red Deer County, former Mayor Jim Wood stepped down after two decades of service. As of 11 p.m., Brent Ramsay is poised to be the mayor-elect, securing 2,163 votes. He leads over Christine Moore, who received 1,421 votes, and Lonny Kennett, who garnered 937 votes.
The unofficial winners for the councillor positions include:

Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Update
As for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, election results are not yet available. However, voter participation reached 10,506, translating to a voter turnout of 25.3% from an estimated 41,494 eligible voters. Counting for Ward 1 has proceeded, with ballot counting also ongoing for Wards 2, 3, and 4.
Election Results in Jasper
In Jasper, several councillors have been re-elected. Unofficial results found Wendy Hall leading with the highest number of votes at 701, joined by re-elected councillors Ralph Melnyk and Kathleen Waxer. New councillors include Danny Frechette, Kable Kongsrud, and Laurie Rodger. Richard Ireland has been acclaimed as the mayor, running unopposed.
Morinville Elections
Morinville saw Simon Boersma acclaimed for a second term as mayor. Councillors Maurice St. Denis and Jenn Anheliger will continue their roles, along with new councillors Nathan Himschoot, Lisa Parenteau, Daryn Duliba, and Jayson Wood. Official results are set to be released on October 24.
County of Northern Lights Insights
In the County of Northern Lights, located 684 kilometers northwest of Edmonton, Reeve Terry Ungarian has retained his position, along with incumbents Gary These and Gloria Dechant. Four other council members were elected by acclamation.
A two-part plebiscite posed to residents sought opinions on exploring a potential nuclear power plant. The majority supported engaging with businesses and other governments, with 489 votes in favor and 260 against. However, regarding the establishment of a nuclear facility within the county, 450 people opposed, while 338 expressed support.
