Causes of the Internet Outage
The issues originated from an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center located in northern Virginia. The primary problem was linked to the domain name system (DNS), which functions as the internet’s directory.
AWS, a major provider of internet infrastructure, indicated that even minor technical faults in its systems can result in widespread problems across various platforms.
Duration and Impact
About three hours after the outage began, AWS identified the technical issue and began implementing a fix. However, the inherent complexity of the internet meant that the solution took additional time to restore full functionality.
