A woman from Westmeath is facing assault charges following an altercation in Mullingar. Rebecca Carney, 27, resides at Newpark Court in Kinnegad. She was accused of violently assaulting another woman on Oliver Plunkett Street on September 29, 2024.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning. Mullingar gardaí received a call about a fight. Upon their arrival, they found a female victim with visible injuries, including a notable lump on her forehead.

The victim’s statement is expected to be part of the state’s case and alleges that she was punched in the face during the altercation. Ms. Carney appeared in Mullingar District Court without entering a plea.

Next Steps in the Case

Judge Emile Daly determined the case was suitable for the District Court. He granted a request from Ms. Carney’s defense solicitor, David Nohilly, for access to all relevant state evidence.

Ms. Carney was remanded on bail and is scheduled to return to court on November 27, 2025.
