Olivia Vukosa, a highly touted prospect, has officially committed to the University of Connecticut (UConn). Announced on October 21, 2025, this decision marks Vukosa as the first recruit for UConn’s 2026 class, solidifying UConn’s reputation as a basketball powerhouse.
Why Vukosa Chose UConn
Vukosa, who hails from Whitestone, New York, cited several influential factors in her choice. She attended Christ the King High School in Queens, a school known for producing top talent who have successfully transitioned to UConn, including Hall of Famers Sue Bird and Tina Charles.
“I have seen Coach Mackey and Deluca prepare girls for college and seen Coach Geno prepare those girls for the next level,” Vukosa expressed. She emphasized the strong connection between her high school and UConn as a motivating factor in her commitment.

Another crucial element in her decision was UConn’s proximity to her family. Vukosa mentioned how this allows her loved ones to support her easily at any game. Furthermore, she felt an immediate sense of belonging during her visit. The welcoming nature of the team made UConn feel like home.

The 6-foot-4 post player brings significant international playing experience. Vukosa represented Croatia in several FIBA competitions, including:

- 2025 U20 EuroBasket B Division, where she averaged 15.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game
Her playing style has often drawn comparisons to UConn legend Stefanie Dolson, known for her skills as a passer and ball handler. Vukosa has demonstrated her ability to shoot effectively from long range while still posing a threat in the post.
Future Prospects
Currently ranked No. 3 in her class, Vukosa could rise to the No. 1 spot by season’s end, challenging Saniyah Hall for the top position. With her commitment, UConn now has the top four recruits of the 2026 class secured.
