Kovac Plans Strategic Rotations Amid Intense Fixture Schedule Ahead of Copenhagen Matchup

Niko Kovac, the head coach of Borussia Dortmund, is implementing strategic squad rotations due to an intense fixture schedule. The team is set to face six matches over the next two and a half weeks, with the majority of these games occurring away from home.

Kovac’s Rotation Strategy for Upcoming Fixtures

As Dortmund prepares for a challenging stretch leading up to the international break in November, Kovac acknowledges the importance of managing player workload. He addressed the media ahead of the Champions League match against FC Copenhagen, emphasizing the need for careful squad rotation.

Fixture Overview

  • Six matches in about 17 days
  • Five matches will be played away from home
  • Upcoming fixtures include Champions League and league matches

“We’ll not only be playing a lot, but also traveling a lot,” Kovac remarked. “This will take a physical toll on our players. Therefore, we’ll definitely rotate the squad. I haven’t decided whether to do it in tomorrow’s match, but it will happen in future games to ensure everyone gets their minutes without risking injury.”

Player Availability

Currently, Kovac has nearly a full squad available, with the exceptions of long-term absentees Emre Can and Julien Duranville. “We had a very intense match in Munich, but by Tuesday, everyone will be sufficiently recovered to play a full 90 minutes,” Kovac stated. This depth in the squad will be crucial as they navigate the demanding schedule ahead.

In summary, Borussia Dortmund’s strategy under Kovac will focus on effective rotation to maintain player fitness during this busy period. By planning ahead, the team aims to succeed both domestically and in European competition.
