Nationwide egg recall widens due to growing salmonella concerns

Concerns regarding salmonella contamination have led to a nationwide recall of eggs produced by Black Sheep Egg Company. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the recall impacts several cartons of free-range large Grade A brown eggs sold across multiple states.

Details of the Recall

The recall follows an FDA inspection that detected salmonella in 40 environmental samples from the Black Sheep egg processing facility. Some strains identified are linked to human illness, although the FDA has stated that there is currently no evidence connecting this firm to an active outbreak.

Impacted Products

  • 12- and 18-count cartons of brown eggs.
  • Best by dates: August 22, 2025, to October 31, 2025.

Black Sheep Egg Company, located in Arkansas, distributed these eggs in its home state and in Missouri from July 9, 2025, to September 17, 2025. Eggs may have also reached other states through further distribution. The FDA will update the advisory with additional impacted products as soon as more information is available.

Related Recalls

In addition to Black Sheep’s products, Texas-based Kenz Henz recalled its 12-count packages of Grade AA Large Pasture Raised Eggs, which were supplied by Black Sheep. These eggs may also be contaminated with salmonella and were sold in retail stores throughout Houston.

Consumer Advisory

The FDA advises consumers, retailers, and distributors not to consume, sell, or serve the recalled products. It is essential to check for the affected cartons and take necessary precautions to ensure food safety.

As this situation develops, more product information will be provided to the public to safeguard against potential health risks.
