Discover The UnReal with Writer Rodney Lee and Director Bonnie Dempsey

In an exciting announcement, the live-action family thriller series “The Unreal” is returning for a second season. Writer Rodney Lee and director Bonnie Dempsey recently shared insights about the show during a podcast interview. The series, originally commissioned by RTÉ, is set to premiere its new season on October 26th.

Overview of The Unreal

“The Unreal” follows the Kelly family, who previously realized they were fictional characters from a 1980s TV sitcom. Having escaped into the real world, they now attempt to lead a normal life a year later. However, their mundane reality takes a turn when they visit a decrepit hotel for an 80s Video Collectors Fair.

Key Plot Developments

During their visit, Kevin, one of the family members, encounters a ghostly boy. Intrigued and unnerved, the Kellys embark on a ghost-hunting adventure. Kevin’s chilling confrontation with the apparition reveals a shocking twist: the ghost resembles him. This discovery is intertwined with Irish folklore, where a doppelgänger, or ‘Fetch,’ symbolizes an impending grim fate.

The series is penned by Rodney Lee and directed by Bonnie Dempsey. It is produced by Nuala Carr and David O’Sullivan from Dyehouse Films. The cast includes:

  • Senan Jennings as Kevin
  • Joseph McKucken as Tom
  • Kathryn McKiernan as Mary
  • Kate Brady as Katie
  • Patrick McDonnell
  • Daniel Nwambu as Leo
