Dunnes Stores Announces Closure of Three Shops Including Cornelscourt Location

Dunnes Stores is set to close three grocery outlets by the end of the month, with significant implications for the affected locations and employees. The first store scheduled for closure is the small Cornelscourt Village outlet in south Dublin.
Details of the Store Closures
The Cornelscourt location will shut down tomorrow. This outlet is situated just a short distance from a larger Dunnes supermarket within the Cornelscourt Shopping Centre. The remaining two closures will occur on Friday, 31 October.
- Ilac Centre, 48-50 Henry Street, Dublin City Centre
- West Street, Drogheda, Co Louth
The impending closure of the Drogheda store was initially reported last week. It is estimated that about 30 employees will be affected by this decision. However, some staff members have already received offers for redeployment to other Dunnes Stores locations.
Market Performance Amid Closures
This announcement comes despite positive trends in grocery spending across Ireland. Recent data from Worldpanel by Numerator indicated a strong boost in take-home grocery sales, which rose over 6% in October. This translates to an additional €67.6 million in consumer spending compared to the same time last year.
Dunnes Stores maintains a dominant position in the grocery sector, holding a 24.4% share of the Irish market. This indicates a resilient business model, even as specific locations face closure.
