Dunnes Stores Shuts Two Dublin Locations by End of October Impacting Local Shoppers
Irish grocery retailer Dunnes Stores will close three locations in Dublin and surrounding areas this month, impacting local shoppers significantly. The closures are scheduled for the end of October 2023.
Dunnes Stores Closure Details
The first store to shut down is the Cornelscourt Village branch in south Dublin, closing on October 24. This smaller outlet is located near the larger Dunnes supermarket within the Cornelscourt Shopping Centre.
Additional Store Closures
On October 31, two more Dunnes Stores will close:
- The West Street branch in Drogheda, County Louth, has been serving customers for over 50 years.
- The Ilac Centre location at 48-50 Henry Street in Dublin city centre.
Management at the Drogheda branch notified employees last week about the impending closure. Most staff members are expected to transfer to nearby stores located in Scotch Hall and Colpe Cross shopping centres.
Safety Issues Prompting Recall
This news comes shortly after Dunnes Stores recalled a popular children’s product. The company issued an urgent recall for a batch of Baby Boys and Girls Mittens after safety concerns arose.
- The mittens, priced at €2, reportedly posed a risk of injury to infants.
- Customers are urged to stop using the mittens immediately and keep them out of children’s reach.
- Approximately 4,100 pairs sold across Ireland are included in this recall.
- Customers can return the mittens to any Dunnes Stores outlet for a full refund.
Dunnes Stores’ decision to close these locations reflects ongoing changes in the retail landscape and highlights the challenges faced by traditional grocery outlets amid evolving consumer habits.
