Heavy Rainfall Strong Winds and Large Waves Expected Stay Alert

The Central Weather Bureau has issued a weather alert due to heavy rainfall, strong winds, and large waves expected in Taiwan. The effects of the northeast monsoon will be felt across various regions, particularly on November 24.

Weather Forecast: Rain and Winds

Expected rainfall will affect the Yilan and Greater Taipei areas, where intermittent rain and a chance of heavy showers are anticipated. Taoyuan and Hualien will also experience brief rain, with a possibility of localized heavy downpours. Additionally, areas such as Zhuliu, Taitung, and the central-southern mountainous regions may see sporadic showers.

Temperature Expectations

  • North and northeast regions: temperatures between 22°C and 26°C.
  • Other regions: cooler mornings and evenings, with temperatures falling to 22°C to 25°C.
  • Daytime highs: approximately 29°C to 31°C.

Conditions on Outlying Islands

  • Penghu: overcast with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 26°C.
  • Kinmen: cloudy to overcast with temperatures between 22°C and 26°C.
  • Matsu: predominantly cloudy, temperatures around 21°C to 22°C.

Wind and Sea Conditions

Strong winds are predicted in coastal and some inland areas north of Tainan, including Yilan, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Wind speeds are expected to exceed level six, with gusts possibly reaching level eight. In Penghu, certain areas may experience averaged wind speeds above level nine and gusts above level eleven, posing risks along the coast.

Safety Precautions

Given the potential for landslides, falling rocks, and rising water levels in mountainous areas, residents are advised to exercise caution when outdoors. Coastal activities should be approached with care due to the likelihood of long waves, particularly in Keelung’s north coastline, northeastern Taiwan, and Matsu.

Stay informed about the weather, and ensure safety during these adverse conditions.
