Oscar Winner Tom Hanks Rides NYC Subway Disguised and Unrecognized
Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks recently embraced public transit in New York City. On October 21, 2025, he was seen riding the 6 subway line, blending in with regular commuters.
Tom Hanks’ Incognito Subway Ride
During his subway journey, Hanks, 69, wore a casual outfit that included a green jacket, black jeans, and boots. He also donned a green knitted beanie and a white protective mask to remain unrecognized.
At one point, he nearly missed his stop and accidentally dropped a bag he was holding. Despite his effort to stay low-key, sightings of the Hollywood star have become increasingly common in recent weeks.
Previous Subway Adventures
This latest trip wasn’t the first for Hanks this month. Earlier, he surprised commuters on the Pelham Line while wearing the same green beanie. On October 7, while riding the 6 line, he chose a green Yankees cap for his disguise.
Post-Ride Activities
After one of his subway rides, Hanks enjoyed coffee from a street vendor and took a moment to relax on a bench. He also shared some money with a street musician before heading to rehearsals for his upcoming off-Broadway play.
About the Upcoming Play
The play, titled “This World of Tomorrow,” is based on Hanks’ book “Uncommon Type.” It is set to premiere at The Shed on October 30, 2025. The story revolves around Bert Allenberry, who repeatedly travels back in time to the 1939 New York World’s Fair in search of love.
In Hanks’ words, “Exploring themes of love and yearning within the unique setting of The Shed is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Other Celebrity Subway Riders
Hanks isn’t the only actor to utilize public transport. Harrison Ford and his wife, Calista Flockhart, also made headlines earlier this year for riding the subway together. Ford, 83, was last seen on the subway in April, reminding fans that even Hollywood icons can share the same urban experiences as everyday citizens.
