Northeast Monsoon Brings Back-to-Back Chill Expect Windward Regions to Stay Wet and Cool with Northern Taiwan Temperatures Dropping to 20°C Over the Next Week

The Northeast Monsoon is set to bring significant weather changes to northern Taiwan over the next week. With temperatures dropping to around 20°C, communities in windward regions can expect continuous rainfall and cooler conditions.

Weather Forecast for Northern Taiwan

The Central Weather Bureau has announced that the northeast monsoon will affect the region this week. On October 24, temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan will see lows around 22°C and highs reaching only 26°C. Other areas will experience lows between 22°C and 24°C, with highs ranging from 29°C to 32°C.

Rainfall Expectations

Forecaster Lin Ding-yi reported that the monsoon is expected to bring two consecutive waves of cooler air. The first wave begins today and will last until October 25, while the second wave will strengthen on October 26. This will result in lower temperatures, particularly in the north where lows will plummet to 20-21°C.

  • October 24: Northern and northeastern Taiwan will experience abundant moisture, resulting in potential heavy rainfall.
  • Rain Locations: Areas like Yilan and Greater Taipei are forecasted to see local heavy rain, with TaoYuan and Hualien also at risk.

Wind Conditions

As the northeast monsoon progresses, strong winds are expected. The Central Weather Bureau has issued warnings for coastal areas with average winds exceeding level 9 and gusts over level 11. Regions including the Hengchun Peninsula, Penghu, and Green Island are most at risk.

Future Weather Outlook

From October 25, the monsoon will weaken, but rainfall will still be a concern, particularly along the northeastern coast and in Hualien. By October 30, conditions are expected to improve with a gradual rise in temperature and reduced precipitation levels.

  • October 27-29: Persistent influence from the northeast monsoon.
  • After October 30: A slight warming trend and diminishing rain chances.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant as the cooler weather and potential rainfall continue to impact daily activities. The combination of lower temperatures and high winds highlights the importance of appropriate winter preparations.
