RTE Gears Up for Comprehensive Election Result Coverage on Presidential Election Day
RTÉ is preparing to deliver extensive coverage of the Presidential election results on Friday, October 24. The election features candidates Catherine Connolly and Heather Humphreys, along with Jim Gavin, who has officially withdrawn but remains on the ballot. Voting will begin at 7 am and conclude at 10 pm on election day.
Comprehensive Coverage Plans
While counting of votes will not commence until 9 am on Saturday, RTÉ aims to provide thorough coverage throughout the election day. The public will receive timely updates on candidate tallies and constituency results, helping to shape a national picture of the election outcome.
Radio Coverage
- Morning Edition: RTÉ Radio 1 will kick off election coverage with a special edition of Morning Ireland at 9 am, hosted by Gavin Jennings live from the RDS count centre in Dublin.
- Ongoing Updates: Coverage will continue throughout the day, featuring discussions and analysis on the Brendan O’Connor Show and Saturday extended coverage with Colm Ó Mongáin from 1 pm to 3 pm.
- This Week Programme: A special edition will air from 6 pm to 8 pm, presented by Rachael English and Áine Lawlor.

Polling and Expectations
Recent polling from Red C conducted by the Business Post indicates a strong lead for Catherine Connolly over Heather Humphreys. Connolly is projected to win 64% of the vote, while Humphreys is at 36%. Once undecided voters are included, Connolly’s support rises to 44%, compared to Humphreys’ 25%. Jim Gavin holds at 10%, down from 12%.
