Jeff Bridges Unveils Stunning WideluxX Prototype in Revival Project

Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges has unveiled the first prototype of his highly anticipated WideluxX camera. This event marks a significant step in a revival project initiated by his company, SilverBridges, which aims to bring back the classic Widelux film camera.

WideluxX Prototype Unveiled

Last Friday, the WideluxX Prototype 0001 was showcased at the International Association for Panoramic Photography convention in Minnesota. The prototype was introduced through a video featuring Jeff and his wife, Susan Bridges, along with SilvergrainClassics editor Charys Schuler and Marwan El Mozayen.

A Legacy of Photography

The Widelux camera holds a special place in Jeff Bridges’ heart. Over the years, he has utilized this camera extensively, capturing behind-the-scenes moments from his film sets. Unfortunately, the original Widelux factory was destroyed two decades ago, halting production and limiting repairs for existing cameras. Bridges recalled, “20 years ago, the Widelux factory burned down, so we decided that rather than letting our favorite camera die, we’d bring her back to life.”

Crafting the Future of Analog Photography

  • SilverBridges: A collaboration of SilvergrainClassics and the Bridges family.
  • Prototype crafted in Germany, preserving the original’s artistic integrity.
  • Focus on maintaining the spirit of the original Panon Widelux F8 camera.

The new camera promises to stay true to its roots while implementing several improvements. Both Schuler and El Mozayen emphasized their commitment to analog photography, stating, “We see ourselves as a bridge between the history and the future of analog photography.”

Engineering Challenges

The team faced significant challenges in re-creating the Widelux camera. They reverse-engineered the original model and had to manufacture all new parts due to the unavailability of original components. This meticulous process aims to ensure the new WideluxX embodies the same craftsmanship as its predecessor.
