Abi Martin, a 17-year-old gymnast from Devon, is on the brink of an exciting chapter as she prepares for the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta. This event marks a significant milestone for Martin, who recently celebrated her 16th birthday in April 2024 and represented Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Achievements Leading to the Championships
In September 2025, Martin won a gold medal on vault at the Paris World Challenge Cup. Now, she aims to showcase her skills on a global platform at the upcoming championships. During her Olympic debut in Paris, she was an essential member of Team GB, helping secure a fourth-place finish in the team final. Her contribution included a score of 13.466 on the floor.
Overcoming Challenges
Martin’s journey has not been without obstacles. After the Olympic Games, she faced injuries to both ankles, which sidelined her for six months. Additionally, she dealt with mental blocks that added to her struggles. However, she emerged from these challenges with a newfound strength and determination.

While she hopes to medal, her primary goal is to enjoy the experience and demonstrate her capabilities on the world stage.
“It’s the first year into the new quad after the Olympics,” Martin said. “This is a building stage. I want to see what I can do and where I stand among the world.”
