The Tennessee baseball program is undergoing a significant transition following the departure of former head coach Tony Vitello. He has taken on the managerial role with the San Francisco Giants. With this change, Tennessee Athletic Director Danny White has quickly initiated a search for a new head coach.

Tennessee Interviews Kevin Schnall for Head Coach Position

Sources suggest that Kevin Schnall, the head coach of Coastal Carolina, is set to be interviewed on Friday. Schnall had an impressive first season, leading the Coastal Carolina team to a 56-13 record and a trip to the College World Series, where they faced LSU.

Current Contract and Experience

Schnall recently secured a new contract with Coastal Carolina that extends through 2030, with an annual salary of $500,000. His extensive coaching experience includes:

  • Nine years as associate head coach at Coastal Carolina.
  • Two years as assistant coach at Central Florida (2013-2015).
  • A total of 12 seasons at Coastal Carolina from 2001 to 2012.

Playing Background

Kevin Schnall also has a strong connection to Coastal Carolina as a former player. He played as a catcher from 1995 to 1999.

Other Candidates

In addition to Schnall, there are other candidates under consideration for the head coach position. Current associate head coach Josh Elander has also been identified as a potential candidate.

As the search continues, the Tennessee baseball program is looking to secure a coach who can build on the foundation left by Vitello and guide the team to new heights.
