NFL Investigates Ravens Over Lamar Jackson’s Practice Status

The NFL is initiating an investigation into the Baltimore Ravens regarding their management of quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice status. This concern arose after Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, was sidelined due to a hamstring injury for the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears.

NFL Inquiry into Ravens’ Practice Reporting

The Ravens may face disciplinary action for noncompliance with the league’s injury report policy. Initially, Jackson was listed as a full participant in Friday’s practice. However, this designation was altered to “limited” the following day.

“The league will look into this,” stated NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy. “Any change to a player’s status is reviewed.”

Ravens’ Statement on Practice Participation

In a statement, the Ravens clarified, “Lamar Jackson was present for and participated fully in our entire Friday practice. Upon further evaluation, and after conferring with the league office, we updated our report.” While Jackson was present, he participated as part of the scout team and did not take starting reps.

Per NFL rules, a player who takes part in individual drills but does not engage in standard repetitions should be classified as having limited participation. Jackson’s situation reflected this policy, leading to the confusion in his practice designation.

Impact on Upcoming Game and Team Dynamics

  • Jackson ruled out for Sunday’s game against Chicago.
  • Betting odds shifted from Baltimore being a 6.5-point favorite to 1.5-point.
  • Tyler Huntley will fill in as quarterback, replacing Cooper Rush.

Huntley holds a record of 3-7 as a substitute starter in his career, having thrown seven touchdowns against seven interceptions. The Ravens have considerably struggled without Jackson, showcasing a drastic performance disparity. Since 2018, the team boasts a 74-32 record (.698) with him at quarterback. However, without him, they have faltered with a record of 4-12 (.250), currently on a six-game losing streak.

This season has been particularly challenging, as the Ravens have dropped their last four games and stand at 1-5. This marks the first time in a decade that they occupy last place in the AFC North.

Looking Ahead

Despite the setbacks, sources indicate that Jackson is expected to return for the Thursday night matchup against Miami. The team hopes to turn around their fortunes as they navigate one of the most difficult phases in their franchise history.
