Rip Current Alert: South Florida Beaches Brace for Rough Surf This Weekend
The South Florida beaches are facing hazardous conditions this weekend due to an increased risk of rip currents. The National Weather Service has issued alerts, warning beachgoers to exercise caution.

As of Saturday evening, a high risk of rip currents is anticipated. Forecasters predict rough surf conditions with wave heights reaching between six and eight feet. Additionally, strong winds from the northeast could gust up to 35 mph. These dangerous conditions are expected to persist throughout the weekend.

Authorities are strongly advising swimmers to avoid the water during this period. Fort Lauderdale Beach Patrol’s Lieutenant David Ochoa provided essential advice for anyone who might find themselves caught in a rip current:

- Float on your back; the ocean’s salt content will assist buoyancy.
- Try to swim parallel to the shore to escape the current.
