Howard University Homecoming Begins with Family Reunion at Yardfest
Howard University commenced its 101st Homecoming festivities on October 24, 2025, launching the vibrant Yardfest 2025. This year’s theme, “One of One,” emphasized the university’s distinct identity and commitment to community and service.

Among the attendees was Kenny Harris, a graduate from the class of 2012. He described homecoming as a “family reunion,” where individuals can embrace their true selves. “It’s a place where you can come as who you are and leave as who you want to be,” Harris said.
Pat France, an alumna from 1986, reflected on the event’s evolution. She noted that, although things have changed, the spirit remains unchanged. “It’s gotten a lot more professional. We just hung on the yard,” said France. She treasures the warmth and energy of Howard and its ongoing academic excellence.

Attendees also expressed excitement about the musical performances. Sophomore Winston Owens highlighted the accessibility of artists at Yardfest, stating, “The artists will literally come out and just have a normal conversation with you.” This personal interaction enhances the festival experience.
