Observing Valleys from the Mountain Peak
In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation, hope is being rekindled in western North Carolina through the efforts of Samaritan’s Purse. Recently, Edward Graham, the Chief Operating Officer, dedicated three new homes for families affected by the hurricane. The ceremony took place in Burnsville, North Carolina, on October 23.
Rebuilding Lives After Disaster
Two families, the Bowens and the Silvers, received new homes built by volunteers and supporters of Samaritan’s Purse. Edward Graham stood on a mountain where Vanessa Bowens played as a child, symbolizing the revitalization of her childhood dreams. He emphasized the organization’s mission, saying, “We don’t do this for charity. We do it because we love you.” His dedication was filled with messages of faith and community support.
A Story of Loss and Renewal
The Bowens’ home was designed with accessibility features for their disabled daughter, Raigan. Despite facing a devastating loss during the hurricane, both families expressed gratitude for their lives and new beginnings. Casey Bowen reflected on the strength of faith amidst adversity, stating, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Community Spirit in Action
The ceremony also highlighted the dedication of volunteers who traveled from various states, including Wisconsin, Texas, and Oklahoma, to assist in the rebuilding efforts. The Blankenship family, whose property was also reconstructed, shared their journey from being trapped in a mudslide to receiving a new, sturdy home. Malcolm Blankenship, a Marine veteran, noted the significance of community support throughout their ordeal.
A Testament to Faith
Each family received a Billy Graham Training Center Bible and a journal filled with supportive messages from volunteers. Edward Graham remarked, “Every home we dedicate is a miracle,” highlighting the emotional and spiritual restoration experienced by those affected. The goal is not only to rebuild structures but also to foster hope and faith.
Ongoing Support and Future Plans
Samaritan’s Purse has committed to a long-term rebuilding program in the region. Volunteer teams will continue to assist in repairing and replacing hundreds of homes. Their mission is to provide tangible support while sharing the message of hope found in Jesus Christ.
As the community rebuilds, families like the Bowens and the Silvers are not just receiving homes; they are gaining stability, faith, and a renewed sense of purpose.
