Josh Jacobs Extends Touchdown Streak for Green Bay Packers
Josh Jacobs, the Green Bay Packers running back, continues to shine with an impressive rushing touchdown streak. Entering their upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacobs has recorded two rushing touchdowns in each of the previous three games.
Josh Jacobs’ Touchdown Streak
During the NFL’s AFC/NFC era, only seven players have achieved a streak of four or more games with two or more rushing touchdowns. Jacobs has joined this exclusive group. In fact, he recently became the 10th player in NFL history to accumulate 69 rushing touchdowns within his first 96 games. This milestone occurred during the Packers’ 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
“We want to convert in the red zone,” Jacobs explained. “It’s all about mentality. I focus solely on the end zone when we reach that area.” His determination led to a two-touchdown streak, which followed a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns on September 21. This game ended a remarkable span of 11 consecutive games in which he scored at least one touchdown.
The Mental Game
Jacobs believes that the mental aspect of the game is crucial to his success. “I try not to think too much about scoring,” he stated. “When I do, it jinxes me.” He experiences a heightened state of play during games, where distractions fade away. “I can’t see the crowd or the sidelines; I’m fully immersed in the field,” Jacobs added.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur also acknowledges Jacobs’ strong mindset. “He plays with the conviction to succeed,” LaFleur said. He noted that Jacobs’ commitment during practice directly influences his game performance on Sundays.
Injury Concerns
Despite his recent successes, Jacobs has been dealing with physical challenges. After the Packers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals on October 12, he admitted he struggled during the game. The day before the Cardinals match, he sustained a calf injury. “I felt good enough to play, even though I experienced some discomfort,” Jacobs mentioned.
In practice last week, Jacobs was limited due to this calf injury. However, he expressed confidence in his recovery, stating, “I didn’t feel any pain after Friday.” His dedication to maintaining form is strong, as he believes in the importance of every practice rep leading up to game day.
Pivotal Matchup Against the Steelers
The Packers are set to face the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh at 7:20 p.m. CDT on Sunday. This game garners attention not only for Jacobs’ rushing touchdown streak but also for the return of Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers’ quarterback who previously spent 18 seasons with the Packers.
