Cheeky Panda, a brand specializing in bamboo-based toilet paper, has embarked on an expansion journey following notable supermarket listings. The company’s product line has recently entered Tesco, marking a significant step in its growth strategy.

Company Overview and Growth

Last year, Cheeky Panda reported a revenue of £13.3 million, reflecting a growth of 5%. Despite this progress, the company experienced challenges that led to a loss in profitability. Cheeky Panda’s EBITDA for the year ending December 31, 2024, stood at a loss of £322,000. Additionally, pre-tax profit fell from £145,000 to a loss of £787,000.

Rebranding and Marketing Strategy

In an effort to enhance its market position, Cheeky Panda undertook a £400,000 rebranding initiative. This included the launch of a new website and the introduction of new products such as sanitary pads and a bamboo-fibre four-ply toilet roll, a UK first available in supermarkets.

Julie Chen, CEO and co-founder, expressed confidence in the brand’s future, stating, “This year’s result reflects a one-off rebrand investment. The business remains fundamentally strong and well-positioned for expansion.”

New Supermarket Listings

The brand’s new products within Tesco will be featured prominently on the store’s ‘eco bay,’ which showcases sustainable options for consumers. Cheeky Panda is launching two specific products:

  • Silky Soft Toilet Roll (three-ply)
    • Retail Price: £6.95 for nine rolls
    • Promotion Price: £5.20 starting November
    • Sheets per Roll: 190
  • Quilted Soft Toilet Roll (four-ply)
    • Retail Price: £7.25 for nine rolls
    • Promotion Price: Scheduled for December
    • Sheets per Roll: 155

Future Prospects

As Cheeky Panda prepares for further expansion, the brand is set to partner with major supermarkets, anticipating more distribution opportunities in 2025. Currently, Cheeky Panda offers a variety of 16 paper products, including kitchen rolls and tissues, across 25 countries.

With a focus on sustainability and innovation, Cheeky Panda is aiming to solidify its market presence while catering to eco-conscious consumers.
