Rancho Cucamonga Winery Reopens, Honoring Founders with New Name
Rancho Cucamonga has welcomed the reopening of its last significant winery, now named D’Ellena Winery. The historic property, initially established in 1916 as Regina Winery, has undergone a transformation under the ownership of National CORE. This new name honors the original owners, the Ellena brothers, and reflects the winery’s rich heritage.
Rejuvenation of a Historic Location
D’Ellena Winery, located at 12467 Base Line Road, began its new chapter after acquiring the property lease in February 2025. The previous operator, Joseph Filippi Winery, had its last operations from 1922 until its closure in 2025. Filippi announced his retirement in 2021, prompting the city to collaborate with community members to preserve the site.
Local Sourcing and Winemaking
- Winemaker: Ryan Pedvin has been appointed as the head winemaker. He began his journey in winemaking in 2018.
- Grape Sourcing: All grapes for D’Ellena’s wines will be sourced from local growers in Rancho Cucamonga and Santa Barbara.
- Upcoming Wines: The winery plans to produce Zinfandel, Palomino, and White Zinfandel.
- Harvesting Timeline: The wines will be available starting in early spring 2026, with a fermentation and aging process lasting from six to eighteen months.
Community and Development Plans
National CORE aims to preserve the winery’s architectural features while enhancing the site. Planned improvements include:
- Restoration of existing vineyards
- A new tasting room experience
- Indoor and outdoor event spaces
- A pocket park with various amenities, including a wine tasting booth
Future developments may also include an on-site museum focusing on the wine history of Cucamonga Valley, enhancing the visitor experience.
Education and Employment Opportunities
Additionally, National CORE has relocated its CORE Academy to the winery site. This program offers free training in property management, marketing, plumbing, and hospitality. The aim is to provide valuable skills that can lead to employment in various fields, including winemaking.
