Brevard, Lake, Orange, Seminole Homes Flooded, Roads Closed After Heavy Rains

Heavy rains wreaked havoc across Central Florida, particularly affecting Brevard, Lake, Orange, and Seminole counties. The downpour led to widespread flooding, road closures, and the evacuation of several homes.

State of Emergency Declared

Lake County has declared a local state of emergency. The Lake County Emergency Operations Center is currently at Level 2—Partial Activation. This status allows officials to mobilize resources for the affected residents.

Impact on Communities

  • About 20 homes were evacuated in Mount Dora.
  • Donnelly Street in downtown Mount Dora experienced severe flooding, reaching depths of 6 to 8 feet.
  • Roadway collapses occurred in Lake and Brevard counties.
  • Officials conducted multiple water rescues, but no injuries were reported.

Flooded Areas and Closures

Significant flooding caused the closure of many roads in Lake, Brevard, and Orange counties:

  • Donnelly Street: Closed from Limit Avenue to Fiddler Drive.
  • Old Eustis Road: Closed from Donnelly Street to Dogwood Circle.
  • State Road 46: Restricted to one lane from Round Lake Road to U.S. Highway 441.

Many cars became stranded, and residents in some neighborhoods reported vehicles submerged in water. Authorities are advising drivers to follow detour signs while these roads remain closed.

Ongoing Recovery Efforts

Lake County officials have opened sandbag distribution sites to help residents protect their homes. Sites include locations such as the East Lake Sports Complex and North Lake Regional Park. Each household is limited to 10 sandbags.

In Titusville, Brevard County, city officials also declared a state of emergency due to severe flooding. Roads near neighborhoods and the airport were submerged underwater. Residents utilized kayaks to navigate the streets due to high water levels.

Emergency Services Response

Fire and police departments across the affected areas are advising residents to stay indoors and avoid flooded roadways. Public works crews are working diligently to assess damage and make repairs.

Moving forward, community members are encouraged to report any damage related to the recent storms by contacting the Lake County Citizen’s Information Line. These reports will help authorities coordinate necessary resources for affected regions.
