Cardinals Cut Running Back Michael Carter
The Arizona Cardinals have made a significant move by cutting running back Michael Carter from their roster. This decision was reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Media on Monday.
Michael Carter’s College and NFL Background
Michael Carter, 26, had a notable collegiate career at the University of North Carolina. He was a four-year starter and earned recognition as a third-team All-American and first-team All-ACC in 2020.
Following his college success, Carter was selected by the New York Jets as the 107th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract valued at $4,287,366, which included a signing bonus of $807,366.
Time with the Cardinals
Carter was in the third year of his contract when he was waived by the Jets. He later signed with the Cardinals, initially joining their practice squad after being cut during roster evaluations.
Last month, Carter was promoted to the active roster. During his time with the Cardinals in 2025, he played in four games, accumulating:
- 97 rushing yards on 35 carries (averaging 2.8 yards per carry)
- Nine receptions for 77 receiving yards
- One total touchdown
The Cardinals’ decision to release Carter marks a pivotal moment in his career, as he seeks to find new opportunities in the NFL.
