Megan Moroney Explores Heartbreak and Healing in New Ballad ‘Beautiful Things’

Megan Moroney has released her highly awaited ballad titled “Beautiful Things.” The song debuted on Friday and has been a highlight of her “Am I Okay?” tour. It marks the second single from her upcoming third album, yet to be named.

The Essence of “Beautiful Things”

In “Beautiful Things,” Moroney captures themes of heartbreak and healing. The chorus reflects on the fragility of emotions:

  • “Words can make a mockingbird forget they’re born to sing.”
  • “Lies can break a fragile heart.”
  • “Doubt can crush your dreams.”

The powerful message continues with, “But, honey, just take it from me/The world is hard on beautiful things.”

Collaboration and Inspiration

During her time in Tennessee, Moroney discussed the inspiration behind the song in an interview with Rolling Stone. Co-writer Connie Harrington introduced the idea, bringing some initial lyrics that Moroney then polished into a heartfelt ballad.

She noted that “Beautiful Things” feels like the “older sister” to her fan favorite “Girl in the Mirror.” Moroney expressed a desire to have had this song during her high school years, showcasing its profound impact.

Performance and Reception

The song was first showcased at an event at the Bluebird Café, where Moroney performed alongside Ed Sheeran and Amy Allen. Since then, it has become a staple in her sold-out tour setlist, resonating deeply with audiences.

Songwriting and Production Team

Moroney co-wrote “Beautiful Things” with a talented group: Connie Harrington, Jessie Alexander, and Jessie Jo Dillon, all of whom were part of a songwriting retreat. The track was produced by Kristian Bush. During the writing process, Harrington moved to tears, highlighting the emotional weight of the song, particularly its relevance to girls who experience silent struggles.

Upcoming Projects

The release of “Beautiful Things” follows her previous single, “6 Months Later,” and a July cover of Toby Keith’s “Who’s Your Daddy?” Additionally, she released a live album from her Am I Okay? tour earlier this month, building excitement for her forthcoming album.
