The ongoing investigation into a significant narcotics case has led to the detention of six foreign nationals in Kenya. These individuals are linked to the trafficking of drugs valued at Sh8 billion.

DPP Seeks 30-Day Detention for Drug Traffickers

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has requested a 30-day extension of custody for the suspects. This extension aims to facilitate ongoing investigations into the allegations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act of 1994.

Arraignment and Court Proceedings

These six individuals were presented in the Shanzu Law Courts. During this hearing, the prosecution emphasized the necessity of appointing an independent interpreter. This will ensure that the proceedings are conducted fairly as authorities verify the identities and credentials of the accused.

Details of the Operation

  • Date of Arrest: October 27
  • Location: Kilindini Port, Kenya
  • Amount of Narcotics Seized: 769 packages
  • Weight: 1,035.9 kilograms of synthetic narcotic substances

The National Police Service (NPS) initiated this operation after receiving crucial intelligence from the Kenya Navy. A suspicious vessel, identified as a “dark vessel,” had been operating in the Indian Ocean without proper identification.

The multi-agency operation led to the successful interception and arrest of the suspects, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
