Key Details Revealed for UM’s TPUSA Event This Wednesday

The University of Mississippi is hosting an important event featuring Vice President JD Vance and Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk. The gathering will take place on Wednesday, October 29, at 5 p.m. in The Sandy and John Black Pavilion.

Key Details for the TPUSA Event

Provost Noel Wilkin has communicated essential information regarding security measures and event logistics. Tickets are mandatory for entry, and attendees must present identification that matches their ticket. Lines for the event are expected to start forming at 11 a.m. on the day of the event, and anyone arriving before that will not be allowed to queue.

Security Protocols

Security measures have been escalated due to the tragic death of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, who was killed on September 10 at Utah Valley University. His passing has led to increased coordination with the U.S. Secret Service to ensure the safety of attendees, including Kirk’s wife, Erika, and Vice President Vance.

  • Tickets are required for entry.
  • Identification must match the ticket.
  • Queue starts at 11 a.m.
  • Bags of any kind are prohibited inside the venue.

Lesley Lachman, the President of the Ole Miss Turning Point USA Chapter, expressed that the chapter has maintained close collaboration with local law enforcement to ensure safety throughout the event. The Oxford Police Department has confirmed its participation, emphasizing its role in assisting the University of Mississippi Police Department and the Secret Service.

Traffic and Parking Changes

Due to the event’s size and security measures, several traffic changes are in effect around the Pavilion. Parking lots will be restricted as follows:

  • Parking lots near the Turner Center and Pavilion Garage will close from 6 p.m. on October 28 to October 30.
  • Hill Drive will close from Big Valley parking lot to All American Drive starting at 7 a.m. on October 29.
  • Eastbound traffic on All American Drive will be restricted from 11 a.m. on the same day.

Transit lines will also adjust service, with specific routes running to accommodate the event. The Green, Teal, Red South, Orange, and Hathorn lines will operate from various locations on campus, while the Gold and Gold Express lines will pick up at the student union.

High Attendance Expected

Thousands of attendees are anticipated at this event, marking it as one of the largest and most secure gatherings at the university in recent years. Lachman noted that the event had been planned months in advance, emphasizing the significance of the university to Charlie Kirk.

The choice of Ole Miss as a stop for Erika Kirk and Vice President Vance signals the university’s reputation as an elite institution, earning respect within political and social circles.

As the event approaches, updates on security measures and logistics will continue to be provided to ensure a smooth experience for all participants and guests.
