A courageous act by an 18-year-old in Boca Raton is making headlines after he rescued multiple individuals during a severe flash flood. Thomas Ruzzano was at Mizner Park with his girlfriend when the heavy rainfall began.

On Sunday night, Boca Raton was hit by a powerful storm, leading to flash flooding throughout the area. Doppler Radar indicated that approximately 8 inches of rain fell, causing significant flooding in various locations.

As Ruzzano and his girlfriend exited the movie theater, they faced a harrowing scene. “We just heard lightning, pouring the whole movie and then on the way out, we’re in a flood,” he recalled. The roundabout and nearby garage were completely submerged, trapping several vehicles.

A Heroic Response

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Ruzzano decided to take action. He waded through the floodwaters, reaching out to stranded drivers. “I went from car to car, probably six or seven people just making sure everyone was okay,” he shared during a subsequent interview.
