Blue Angels Grounded, Cancel Jax Beach Air Show
The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, renowned for their dazzling aerial performances, will not participate in this weekend’s Sea and Sky Air Show in Jacksonville due to the ongoing U.S. government shutdown. This decision was confirmed by city officials late Friday.
Details of the Jacksonville Air Show
Despite the absence of the Blue Angels, the air show will proceed, showcasing several civilian acts. The event promises an exciting lineup with multiple performances from air show participants.
Participating Performers
- Mini Jet Airshows featuring pilot Tom Larkin and his BD-5J jet.
- The Redline Airshows with a father-son aerobatic team.
- The Chuters parachute team has been added to the schedule.
The free air show is set to kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. It will take place offshore at Jacksonville Beach’s Seawalk Pavilion, located at 75 1st St N.
Government Shutdown Impact
The government shutdown is now entering its fourth week. This situation arose after House and Senate members failed to reach a compromise during a vote on Thursday.
Additional Events
The air show will also feature a Military Recruitment Zone, presented by The Boeing Company, and a Kids Zone, including Mayor Deegan’s River City Reader Bookmobile. These activities aim to engage families and promote community involvement.
Transportation and Accessibility
To accommodate the expected crowds, several streets in beachfront Jacksonville Beach will be closed. A shuttle service will be available, running from Florida State College at Jacksonville on Beach Boulevard and Hicks Hall at the University of North Florida. Riders can use the round-trip service for a fee of $10 per person.
