In a formal statement, the Justice Ministry reiterated its support for public safety initiatives in Rio de Janeiro. It emphasized a commitment to collaborate with state authorities to enhance security measures. The ministry referenced a meeting in February between Minister Ricardo Lewandowski and Governor Castro, where ten positions in federal prisons were offered for organizing criminal leadership regarding the state’s security issues.

Recent statistics from the Federal Police (PF) underscore the ongoing effort to combat organized crime and drug trafficking. Here are some key figures from their operations:

  • Operations Related to Drug and Arms Trafficking: 24

Financial Support and Resources

Since 2019, the government has contributed R$ 288 million from the National Public Security Fund (FNSP) to improve state security. As of now, R$ 157 million has been allocated for various programs, leaving over R$ 174 million still available for future use. Additionally, the ministry has provided equipment such as computers, drones, and vests worth approximately R$ 10 million.

The latest mega operation in Rio de Janeiro led to significant casualties, marking it as one of the deadliest in the city’s history. Reports state that at least 60 individuals lost their lives during these events. State authorities confirmed the arrest of 81 individuals, while nine others sustained gunshot injuries, including three civilians and six police agents.
