The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported on Monday that the recall involves eight batches of cheese wheels. The affected products include:

  • Whatcom Blue
  • Farmhouse
  • Peppercorn
  • Mustard Seed

These cheese items were made from raw, unpasteurized milk and had been aged for a minimum of 60 days.

The recalled cheese was distributed to various retail stores in Oregon and Washington. It was sold as:

  • 2.5-pound round cheese wheels

E. coli Strain Details

Testing conducted by the Washington State Department of Health revealed that two unopened cheese samples contained E. coli O103 and E. coli STEC. Among those infected, two individuals are adults, while one is a child under five years old.

Health Risks Associated with E. coli

Common symptoms linked to E. coli infections include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), and vomiting. Symptoms usually appear three to five days after exposure to the bacteria. Although most individuals recover without medical treatment within seven days, some may experience complications necessitating hospitalization.
