Cindy Verchere, a resident of Vancouver’s Douglas Park neighborhood, anticipates more than 3,000 children to visit her home this Halloween. She has budgeted nearly $500 for treats, which is higher than in previous years. “It starts to add up,” she remarked, noting that she looks for sales to manage her costs.
Despite her efforts to provide nut-free options, which are typically pricier, Verchere has reduced the number of pieces she hands out from two to one in recent years due to rising expenses. “It just gets to be too much,” she admitted.
