Rain Threatens to Dampen Halloween Trick-or-Treating in Western Pa.
This Halloween, trick-or-treaters in Western Pennsylvania may face a significant weather challenge as rain is forecasted for the holiday. According to Shannon Hefferan, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Moon, the region is expected to receive heavy rainfall, possibly exceeding one inch on Thursday.
Rain Forecast and Halloween Plans
As Halloween approaches, the chance of rain is particularly high. On Friday morning, the probability of rain ranges from 70% to 90%. Fortunately, the chance of precipitation is expected to diminish during the day, potentially clearing up just before children head out for trick-or-treating.
Weather Conditions During Trick-or-Treating
- Expected temperatures will be in the upper 40s, possibly reaching 50 degrees.
- Wind gusts are predicted to be around 20 to 25 miles per hour.
- Wind chill may feel like the upper 30s to low 40s.
Hefferan emphasized that remnants of rain may still linger during trick-or-treating hours. To stay prepared, she advises children to consider carrying umbrellas. Additionally, the northern areas around Pittsburgh may experience a higher likelihood of rain.
A Look Back at Halloween Weather
Last year’s Halloween was notably warm, with temperatures soaring to a record 80 degrees. In contrast, the coldest recorded Halloween occurred in 1887, when temperatures plummeted to 20 degrees.
As trick-or-treaters set out on their candy hunt, it’s essential to be mindful of the weather. With possible wind gusts affecting decorations, parents might also consider providing gloves for extra warmth.
