City Mayoral Debate Hosted by University
The University of Scranton recently hosted the first of two political debates for the upcoming general election. This significant event took place on Thursday, October 16, at the PNC Auditorium, part of the Loyola Science Center.

- Paige Cognetti – Democratic Nominee and Scranton Mayor
- Trish Beynon – Republican Nominee
- Gene Barrett – Independent Candidate
- Rik Little – Independent Candidate
A nearly full house attended the debate, with many more viewers tuning in via a livestream. The event was moderated by Brian Snee, Ph.D., the director of the University’s Center for Ethics and Excellence in Public Service (CEEPS).

Three journalists served as panelists, posing critical questions to the candidates:

Additionally, Grace Lennox and Philip Huffman, the presidents of the College Democrats and College Republicans respectively, welcomed the nominees, enhancing the event’s engagement.

The University of Scranton plans to host a second political debate on Thursday, October 23, at 6 p.m. This debate will focus on the nominees for the Lackawanna County Commissioner position, taking place at the Pearn Auditorium inside Brennan Hall.
