Vanceboro Schools Close Amid Ongoing Manhunt for Murder Suspect

Vanceboro, North Carolina, is currently in a state of heightened alert due to an ongoing manhunt for a murder suspect. The situation escalated when a deputy was stabbed during a confrontation with 24-year-old Dominic Connelly, the individual sought in connection with the murder of his grandmother.

On Wednesday night, Connelly allegedly attacked a deputy at a fast-food restaurant located at 380 Highway 43 in Vanceboro. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. in the restaurant’s bathroom. Following the assault, Connelly fled the scene towards a nearby apartment complex.

Sheriff Chip Hughes provided an update on the situation during an afternoon press briefing. He indicated that there have been no new sightings of Connelly but assured the community that law enforcement is actively pursuing him. “We’re hot on his heels,” Hughes stated, emphasizing the risks involved in dealing with a “dangerous person.”
Authorities have deployed multiple resources, including drones and helicopters, to aid in the search. Approximately 15 to 20 agents from the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are assisting local law enforcement in patrols. The sheriff labeled the manhunt as the number one priority for his office.
