DJI Neo 2 Selfie Drone Enhances with Obstacle Avoidance, Gesture Controls

DJI has unveiled its latest offering, the Neo 2 selfie drone, following its predecessor launched in September 2022. Priced at approximately 1,499 Chinese Yuan, or roughly $211, this upgraded model introduces several advanced features aimed at enhancing user experience.
Key Features of the DJI Neo 2 Selfie Drone
- Obstacle Avoidance: The Neo 2 incorporates forward-looking LIDAR and downward-looking infrared sensors that allow the drone to actively avoid obstacles while following its user, enhancing safety and control.
- Gesture Controls: New gesture controls enable users to guide the drone’s movements with hand signals, providing a more intuitive operating method.
- Increased Flight Speed: The drone can follow users at a maximum speed of 12 m/s (nearly 27 mph), significantly faster than the original model.
- Improved Stability: Designed to perform better in various weather conditions, the Neo 2 can maintain a stable hover in winds up to 24 mph.
Battery and Storage Enhancements
The DJI Neo 2 features a larger 1,606 mAh rechargeable battery, extending flight times to a maximum of 19 minutes. Additionally, onboard storage has surged to 49GB, up from 22GB in the previous model, allowing for more footage capture.
Camera and Performance Specifications
Equipped with a dual-axis gimbal for enhanced stabilization, the drone’s camera retains the original half-inch sensor but now boasts a wider field of view. It can record 4K footage at up to 60 frames per second (fps) or up to 100 fps during manual piloting.
Competitive Positioning
Positioned as a favorable alternative to products such as HoverAir’s entry-level X1, the DJI Neo 2 combines advanced features with a budget-friendly price point. It remains an appealing choice for both amateur and experienced drone enthusiasts.
Availability and Bundles
Currently, the DJI Neo 2 is exclusively launched in China. In addition to the base model, DJI offers a bundle that includes extra batteries and a multi-charger for 1,499 Chinese Yuan ($282). A more comprehensive package featuring the motion control joystick and Goggles N3 is also available for 3,699 Chinese Yuan ($521).
With its enhanced functionality and user-friendly controls, the DJI Neo 2 selfie drone sets a new standard for compact drones in the market.
